Meet Leo Jaramillo

I’m a native son of the Española Valley and a proud alumnus of Española Valley High School. Upon high school graduation, I attended the University of New Mexico, earning a Bachelor of Arts in Mass Communication and Journalism and a Master of Arts in Education/Curriculum Design and Instructional Leadership from the College of Santa Fe. I also had the opportunity to work as a news writer/producer for KRQE News 13 in Albuquerque and as a middle school teacher in Belen prior to returning to the Española Valley.

Since 2003, I have been employed at Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) where I have served as a professional staff assistant, communication specialist, training specialist, recruiter, financial analyst, and most recently, chief of staff/administrative officer.

I have always had the desire and passion to give back to my community and have done so wholeheartedly throughout the years with integrity and compassion. My life has always been guided by my passion for service and ethical leadership.

I’m excited and honored to be running to be your District 5 State Senator so that I can continue to advocate for northern
New Mexicans.

Chief of Staff
LOS ALAMOS NATIONAL
LABORATORY
RIO ARRIBA
COUNTY COMMISSIONER
District 2.

Community Leader

I am currently a Chief of Staff/Administrative Officer at Los Alamos National Laboratory.

In this role, I support the Associate Laboratory Director of Facilities and Operations in the areas of staff development, human resources, and strategic planning.

I am currently a Rio Arriba County Commissioner representing District 2. During my time on the Commission, I have collaborated with City, Pueblo and State Leaders to work on finding solutions to issues we face in northern New Mexico including recovery, homelessness and housing, the lack of a senior citizen assisted living facility, and the need for behavioral/mental health care in our communities.

As a community advocate and leader, I have played an integral role in standing alongside residents to stop a major corporation from moving into a residential area as well as fighting for the protection of groundwater from a super fund site in my district which the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is abandoning.
